Why another ankle surgery rehab Blog?
Why am I creating a Blog?
Two Reasons:
1) I like to get outside (hiking, exploring, etc.)
2) I am fairly clumsy, and therefore injury prone
As a result, I have had to deal with learning and re-learning to enjoy the outdoors after a few setbacks.
As I have been recovering from my injuries, I have always been curious about average healing time, how to improve range of motion, strengthening muscles for hiking and climbing, etc. I am also always on the lookout for realistic expectations when it comes to post-injury pain, returning to long-distance outdoor activities, etc. Being unable to find much information on people who have returned to hiking, backpacking, etc. after injuries, and their experiences and processes- I decided to chronicle my own- maybe for myself to reflect upon years from now, and also maybe in the hopes that this may help someone else out there- either as a resource, a forum to share stories and tips, or just to laugh at my unfortunate luck...
I will focus my writing on my current situation- but may also write about my previous experiences at a later date. To give you an overview of my injury background: I have had two ACL reconstructions (both Right and Left) as a result of sports injuries, and currently: I had an ORIF (Open Reduction and Internal Fixation) for my fibula fracture on my right ankle.
Not to mention: all these injuries and surgical procedures have taken place within the past 5 years (I know- yikes!).
The pre-surgery consultation and x-rays. The bruising is on point!
It is important to note: this blog is a reflection of my personal experiences and thoughts, and it will not substitute legitimate medical recommendations, hiking injury and/or rescue tips, or wilderness first aid. The main focus of this will be to share my experiences as I recover from my current injury- and my re-introduction to hiking and backpacking post ankle surgery.
Thanks for stopping by!

The day of the ankle fracture: check out that size difference! (P.S. I'm glad I did my nails before breaking my ankle...haha!) |
